NBC News will begin making its "NBC Nightly News" broadcast available for free on the Internet starting next week. Past broadcasts will also be archived at http://www.nightlynews.msnbc.com/. The broadcast will not be "live," which is both good and bad. Good because you can watch it anytime you want. Bad because the broadcast will not be available on the Web until after 10 p.m. ET.
My only question is, "WHAT TOOK SO LONG?!?!" I think the market is ripe for such content, and probably has been for some time now. It will be interesting to see how the other news programs react to NBC's decision. Could this reenergize the movement towards making network television available on the Internet? It sure would be nice if that happened before the Feds do away with analog TV spectrum, which has been slated to occur as early as December of 2006.
