I celebrated my birthday yesterday. My day began very early as I planned to meet a former law professor for breakfast downtown. I left the house before 7:00 and it was lightly snowing. By the time I was about halfway to downtown the road conditions were getting a bit dicey. Suddenly, the car in front of me braked and I slammed into it. Someone else the slammed into the back of my car.
Thankfully, no one was injured. I called my professor and informed him I would not be able to meet him for breakfast, and then after exchanging information with the other drivers, gingerly drove my damaged car to work. I've never had a car accident; not a great way to start a birthday.
When I arrived at work I walked up to my office only to discover I had locked my keys in my damaged car. This also may have been a first for me.
Thankfully, my day didn't get any worse. I left work early and my wife and I hurried to get the kids over to the sitter in order to make a 5:15 movie. We saw Pride & Prejudice, at a
small movie theater called Chez Artiste. Great movie--chick-flick notwithstanding. We then ate dinner at a very hole-in-the-wall Indian restaraunt, India Oven. The food was amazing. This was the best I've had since eating at a good Indian friend's home while in high school. We recommend ordering the platters.
It is a rare thing to see a great movie and have a great meal all in one night. I also received some very thoughtful gifts, which put the evening over the top. If I had not had such a miserable morning, the night would not have been as appreciated.
Anyhow, it ended up being a very enjoyable , and memorable birthday.
