Well, it's been a tremendously busy few weeks post bar exam. Work is extremely fast paced and every hour is completely different from the next, which I enjoy.
Also, we finally bought a car, and not just any car, but the car we were looking for. For the past several weeks we have been looking for a Camry wagon. I sold my Camry when Kristen and I were married, and have missed it ever since. The wagon, although quite rare, is like having a Camry, a pickup (the back seats can be folded down creating one huge area for stuff), and a minivan (it seats 7 thanks to a foldout 3rd row jump seat) all in one. Because these vehicles are so versatile, dependable, and curiously attractive (maybe) they are in very short supply. For the weeks that we looked for one we never found exactly what we were looking for.
Last Thursday night a white Camry wagon with the 3rd row seat, relatively low miles, roof rack, and V6 engine popped up on Craigslist for sale for well below market value, only it was in San Diego, quite a distance from the Rocky Mountains. (BTW, you can use www.crazedlist.com to search classifieds in multiple cities). Kristen suggested I fly out and pickup the car. My first thought was, "are you kidding?", but within a few minutes I was on the phone with the seller. I ran through the usual questions, all which were answered to my satisfaction, at which time I informed the seller I would be by in the morning to pick it up. Kristen and I immediately booked a cheap one way flight to San Diego for the next morning at 7am, went to bed for a few hours, then we were off to the airport.
The transaction went through without a hitch. The car was as described and within two hours of landing I was on my way back to Denver via I-15. I drove through LA, Vegas, spent some time in Salt Lake with family, and eventually arrived in Denver.
Yesterday we took the car to our mechanic and again it was confirmed that the car was in good working condition. Quite a trip for used Camry wagon, but it was what we wanted and we decided to go for it. I must admit it was quite a thrill. Thankfully, the risks we took worked out.
The car in the picture to the left is not the car we purchased, but it is fairly accurate representation of what the car actually looks like. You're probably thinking, "He went to all that trouble for that thing?" Well, yes, I did--and no regrets so far. Not quite your Ferrari 550 Maranello, but just wait until I get the Lamborghini doors, blades, and hood scoop on this thing (just kidding).
