Over the past few months I have been troubled by the headlines presented by several online media outlets. Consider the following "top stories":
- Line of fire burns behind Rialto homes
- USS Intrepid stuck in mud | Now
- Bombs rattle Baghdad despite curfew
- Horny UK teens Europe's worst, report says
- Navarette: Dems may be no better than GOP
- Waitress: Naked couple not on the menu
- Silent plane would cut airport noise
- 'Cheaper by the Dozen' author dead
These are "top stories" on CNN today. By "top stories" CNN does not mean the most popular stories, rather these are the headlines as selected by CNN.
One day before elections and we have a story on "horny UK teens" and a "naked couple" who apparently are not on the menu. Is this concerning to anyone else out there? Has online news degenerated to the point where click-through rates trump reporting the news that will have the most effect on Americans?
My answer: Of course it has.
