Last month I spent quite a bit of time working in a cooperative workspace here in Denver called The Hive.
In business school a group of students and I kicked around the idea of developing a business in the "co-working" space, but it never came to fruition. We thought that with the increasing number of knowledge workers who telecommute and/or freelance, the co-working idea fills a gaping niche between the proverbial "dining room table" workspace and standard office workspace.
I really enjoy working in such a setting. It is surprisingly quiet, but at the same time there are quite a few interesting people to interact with if you choose to.
One thing I found a bit curious is that I never met any females working in the Hive. Perhaps this is because most of the co-workers seem to be programmers, developers, etc., and females are underrepresented in these vocations. Or perhaps it's something else.
If you ever find yourself in the area of the Hive (15th and Platte, near the big REI), stop in and check it out. I may be there.
